Chinook 200W

The Chinook 200-12 200W wind turbine with 300W PWM dump controller, Up-Wind 3-blade, 12VDC, and 3 year warranty is a quality, American made source of inexpensive power. Manufactured and tested near Great Falls, Montana, these wind turbines are proving to be an ideal way to help lower your monthly utility bills, as well as your dependence on fossil fuels. And with its small size, it can be installed nearly anywhere and done so quite easily.

The Chinook 200W is proof that good things often come in small packages. Despite its lightweight, compact design, this little turbine is capable of producing plenty of power. Weighing in at a mere 14 pounds, and having a blade diameter of only 39 inches, it can be easily mounted in just about any location using only a steel pole for support. This compact yet sturdy design is one of its primary selling points and helps it stand apart from other wind turbines on the market.

This little wind turbine is also a great producer of electricity. It has a maximum output of 250W, but as its name suggests, is rated at 200W. It has outstanding capabilities for producing power in low wind speeds, but can handle speeds as high as 28 miles per hour. However, at an average wind speed of 12 miles per hour, this turbine is still capable of producing around 40 kilowatt hours per month. And because it can be used in either 12V or 24V modes, it can be used for many different applications.

The Chinook 200W has a host of other features as well. Because this wind turbine is designed to have only two moving parts and uses sealed-for-life bearings, it is extraordinarily reliable and requires very little maintenance. This makes it ideally suited for those that just want to set it up and forget about it. Its exceptional performance in low-wind situations is due to its use of a 3-phase axial permanent magnet alternator (PMA). This allows for a very low cut-in speed (RPM at which the turbine will generate electricity) of only 350 RPM.

One of the best features of this wind turbine is its control system. Using microcontroller technology, the Chinook 200W is capable of monitoring its own operations thereby making it easier to keep the system running at optimal efficiency. Its unique “plug and play” charge controller is designed to keep your storage batteries from being overcharged and features a built in dump load as well. And all control systems are protected by an 18-gauge, powder coated steel enclosure for maximum protection and longevity.

The well thought out nature of this wind turbine, from its lightweight design to its wonderfully conceived control system, makes it ideal for residential and marine applications. They are often used to supplement a solar power system, as a means of producing electricity on cloudy or wintery days. However, depending on your specific needs, they are can be used as a primary source of power as well. And with a price tag of less than 800 dollars, there are few turbines that can compete.
