A DIY wind turbine is any wind turbine that was “do it yourself” or built by their owner. It may sound like a tough task, but a wind turbine is actually a relatively easy project that can be done with minimal knowledge of mechanics and electricity. Directions can be found online for easy ways to build anywhere from a 100 to 1000 watt and higher wind mill.
Every DIY wind turbine requires the same basic parts which often can be easily manufactured or found at a hardware store. They are the blades, rotor, generator and a tower to keep them in the wind. The parts can vary widely from one windmill to the next and can even convert power with an old car or truck alternator. There are plenty of discarded parts that can be turned into a working windmill.

The best resource would be someone who has already built one of these themselves or someone with a good knowledge of mechanical engineering as well as electrical engineering although the wiring required is not difficult or complex.
