Wind Power Facts

In the recent push to develop alternative energy sources, wind power has been touted as one of the most promising energy sources for the future. However, there is still a good deal of doubt and uncertainty as to what wind power is capable of doing, and how much energy it is capable of providing. Wind power facts can help alleviate this problem by providing succinct, proven information.

For starters, wind power has been used for hundreds of years, though the technology utilized to harness this power has obviously evolved. Today's largest wind turbines can generate enough electricity to supply over 500 homes. Generally these large windmills are placed in areas of high wind activity, usually dozens at a time. The wind power industry is growing, and worldwide there are over five times as many wind turbines today as there were in the year 2000.

A smaller wind turbine can generate enough electricity to power a home. The amount of power will depend, of course, on both the local wind activity and the size of the turbine. But at the very least these can be used as a supplement to reduce power costs. In fact, if your wind turbine generates excess electricity, you can actually make money by selling the excess power to the utility company.
