Wind Power Generation

In essence, wind power is simply the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, typically electricity. Wind turbines are the method used to accomplish this. This can be done on either a small, residential basis, or in the form of large wind farms designed to power large areas.

Wind energy is an appealing alternative when compared to fossil fuels because wind is plentiful, renewable, and produces no emissions. One of the biggest knocks against wind power is that many find wind turbines unattractive or too noisy. However, the design of turbines is improving to address these concerns and come up with sleeker, quieter models.

Between 2005 and 2008, the amount of wind power produced doubled, and the use of wind turbines continues to multiply just as the technology continues to improve. There is a high ceiling on this capability—some countries, such as Demark, generate nearly 20% of their electricity from the wind. Worldwide use of wind energy promises to continue to grow.
